A Word heard by almost Evëryone,but really "Uñderstøød" & "Kñöwñ" by a few peöple...
From Centüries peöple all over the Wörld have been associated with this name but selected Söuls have asked the môst basíc Questiôn: "What does the word "Süfî"
means???"
So,I wöuld start with throwiñg light on the Wörd îtself...
To understäñd this first we have to understand the Meaning & Origin of Wörd: Sûfi or as some type as Sööfî.
Many "OPÎNÏONS" regarding that are as follows:
1.Abu Raihan Al-Bairuni
(973AH-1048AH) is a well knöwn Müslîm scholar in Aströnömy,Chöronølogy & Hîstöry.He spent many years of lîfe in "INDIAN SUBCONTINENT" during which he acquired perfect & expert knowledge of purely "INDIAN" language "Sänskrît",which is also known as "DEV-VAANI(Language of the Gods)"...
So,as per the scholar the Origïn of the word "Sööfi or Süfî" was Arabic word "SOOF".Soof has been taken from Greek language word SÖPHÎA meaning WÎSÐÖM,that is why many learned & wise men were called "Philasoof" means "Lovers of Wisdom"(Phila=Lover,Soof=Wisdom).From this the English language derived the word "PHILOSOPHER" later.
2.Some books stress the word Süfî has been derived from ‘SAFA’(Swad,Alif,Fay,Alif) which means Pürîty & Clëanlîness. The aim of the Süfi as per them is to attain cleanliness, of mind, spirit and body.
3. IMAM AL-QUSHAIRI (R.A) writes that some believe the word is derived from the Arabic word ‘SUF’ which means "Wööl". The SÜFÎS were known for wearing a long woolen coat called "Khîrqäh",which was also worn in color " BLACK" by Prophet Mohammed(PBUH-Peace be upon Him) himself. For their simplicity Sufîs wore simple clothing made of wool denoting the Innocence of a "Lämb".
4.Another explanation is that the term derives its meaning from the word ‘SUFFA’, or the "Bench". This relates to the bench of people that existed in the PROPHET MOHAMMED(PBUH) Mosque. This area was occupied by the simple, poor and ascetic followers of the PROPHET, like ABU HURAIRA(R.A).
"But the Wôrd Süfî has its Rööts more deeper than that.The First person in Arabic History to be given the Title "Sööfi" was ABUL HASHIM AL KUFI who died in 150AH."
So, it is "CLEARLY PROVED" from the above synthesis that "NO PARTICULAR RELIGION OR COUNTRY CAN TAKE THE CREDIT & CLAIM OF ALONE BEING ASSOCIATED WITH ORÎGÎN OF WORD SÜFÎ OR SÜFÎSM ITSELF" be it a Muslim,Hindu,Greek,Christian,Jew,Buddhist,Tao,Platonist,Philosopher,Sikh or any other Sect residing in Añy cörner of the Wörld!!!
People who say that Süfîsm is related to a particular "RELIGION" are the biggest "CÖNSPÎRERS & LÎARS" as far as "TRUÊ SÜFÎSM" is concerned,because THÏNK if SÜFÎ word itself cannot be cöntained by Añy Relîgiön then how SÜFÎSM on the whole can be related to a Particular Religion???
Wörd "SÜFÎ" is "UNÎVERSÄL" by nature.
